The Blue Oval has just been covered by the new performance of the SUV 2019 Ford Edge at the Detroit Auto Show in 2018, reinforcing its line with a variant of the fast double turbo go able to roll at 60 mph in the low range 5 seconds and go through a fast corner without falling, thanks to a sport suspension. That’s good, but when you think about it, the basic model is definitely a much better buy.
Exterior and Interior
This is the first facelift for 2019 Ford Edge since it moved to the current platform of a chassis designed by Mazda for the 2015 model year. The 2019 model is a sleek model, with new headlights, pared shocks and taillights; maintains the wings, roof and door panels of the previous model. The ST model gets a different color palette, with dark moldings, grilles and side edges. The grid also has a hexagonal pattern that must be sportier than the color unit of the body on the other edges (SE, SEL, Titanium). There are four new wheel and color options, with Exclusive Performance Blue for ST.
While the exterior cools slightly, the interior does not. It has been almost unchanged since 2018, with the exception 2019 Ford Edge of an update to the center console shift lever. The transition to a new electronically controlled eight speed automatic transmission shows a new rotary shifter installed in the console, as in the Explorer. Larger, the interior is not modified, like the materials. The ST model has more reinforced seats and unique leather patterns with silver stitching on the seat, as well as different sill frames, a unique indicator group and an ST brand steering wheel. New options include Bang & Olufsen’s high end B & O Play 12 speaker audio system, Qi wireless phone charging and remote start. The FordPass Connect Wi-Fi Media Connectivity System will be standard, allowing you to connect up to 10 wireless personal electronic devices and communicate with smartphones via the FordPass app. The link synchronization of the app will also allow connectivity to the Amazon Alexa home in the vehicle.
The standard engine of the new 2019 Ford Edge is a 2.0 liter turbocharged four cylinder EcoBoost engine that produces 250 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with a standard eight speed automatic transmission, which is new for 2019. Front wheel drive is standard, with optional all wheel drive. The ST introduces the 2.7 liter EcoBoost V-6 with a dual turbocharger built into the Fusion Sport, but with a little more power: 335 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. It is also paired with the eight speed automatic transmission, but the transmission receives a special melody and different transmission ratios. Both powertrains have a rotating shifter and the ST model also has a Sport mode that changes the gearshift modes, throttle mapping and instrument cluster display while adjusting the tone exhaust. Wheel sizes range from 18 inches on minor wheels to optional 21 inch summer tires on the ST. An optional electronic performance brake assembly with ventilated rear rotors and red painted calipers is also available as an option on the ST.
Price and Release Date
Ford is committed to delivering on SUV and van commitments instead of sedans, and is doing so with a little speed. When it goes on sale later this year at an initial price of $ 43,350, 2019 Ford Edge will be the first High Rider to wear the ST Sports Badge.
