When testing the 2018 Motor Trend SUV, we liked the spacious 2019 Chevrolet Equinox rear seat, good manners and handling. The optional 2.0 liter four cylinder delivers plenty of power and the nine speed transmission changes well. However, we did not like the poorly placed, poorly lit and driver selectable four wheel drive switch, or “its suspicious build quality: the door plate flexes if it gently rubs against it, the back door squeaks” when it opens and closes, and a strange roaring noise emanates from the back of the cabin at highway speed. “The competition has already established a benchmark well before the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox,” it concludes.
Exterior and Interior
Since the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox model L is only a special order and the LS does not contribute much to a substantial price increase, we think it’s worth jumping straight into the LT model. Its list of additional features is not exhaustive, but you get upgraded headlights for better visibility at night, with satellite radio and tinted windows. The LT also opens the doors to several interesting offers. The set of confidence and convenience is highlighted, with additional luxury features and blind spot monitoring.
The interior of 2019 Chevrolet Equinox is attractive and well configured. But we would prefer that the steering wheel is telescoped and we would like the panoramic sunroof not to be so intrusive for the rear passengers. The touch screen is tilted in a strange way, which makes it inclined to dazzle and darken the screen. Otherwise, the design of the controls is logical and the operation of many systems is intuitive. The entry height is low enough to allow the smallest passengers to enter with minimal effort, and the doors are small enough to open into tight parking spaces. But the bottom edge of the doors is low and prone to scratching on the high edges. There is a good seat adjustment range, but the steering wheel is not enough for average adult drivers, which forces them to sit closer and straighter than many prefer. There is plenty of space in the front, but the rear roof is limited by the panoramic sunroof. Fortunately, you can get the best features of 2019 Chevrolet Equinox without opting for the moonroof. The front roof pillar is a little thicker than the one you find in the rivals, obstructing the view through the left turns. Visibility on the sides and rear is typical for other compact SUVs, with some confidence in the backup camera needed in tight spaces. The quality of interior materials is disappointing for the class and even more so when you consider the price of 2019 Chevrolet Equinox. Hard plastics are one thing, but the textures do not match and the appearance and feel are of mediocre quality.
The 1.5 liter turbo four cylinder fits the average buyer, but the model really comes to life with the 2.0 liter, 252 horsepower turbocharged engine. According to the EPA, you can also opt for the 1.6 liter turbodiesel engine for a combined fuel economy of up to 32 miles per gallon. The entire 2019 Chevrolet Equinox range offers orderly driving and the steering system is highly predictable. While the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox handles well for its class, opting for the 2.0 liter engine does not increase your capabilities to embrace curves and its nine speed automatic transmission sometimes seems confusing. In addition, the optional diesel engine, although full of torque, can tow only 1,500 pounds per trailer with the 3,500 pound 2019 Chevrolet Equinox equipped with 2.0 liters.
Price and Release Date
We expect 2019 Chevrolet Equinox to follow GM’s model change sequence and launch in the third quarter of 2018. The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is $ 24,795 per front wheel drive model. L. Most buyers will be better off in an LS or LT model, starting at $ 26,795 and $ 28,095, respectively. If you want a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox diesel, you will also need to increase the LT diesel, which starts at $ 30,495. 2019 Chevrolet Equinox Premium models start at just under $ 32,000. The four wheel drive costs $ 1,700 more and requires an LS adjustment or higher. All inclusive, an 2019 Chevrolet Equinox SUV can exceed $ 42,000, which is quite high in this segment. At its base price, the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox mines the Honda CR-V and Nissan Rogue, and conforms to the Ford Escape. Competitors like Subaru Forester, Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson start a little less.
